It's not very long, but will be good to just wear around the back of the neck, then either overlap inside the front of a coat, or wear loose.
There were lots of other dark and neutral colors, but this colorful skein was all by itself. To me with my "western" mind set, these colors seemed to say "southwestern" or "cowgirl," reminding me of those old-timey Navajo blankets with the big, colorful stripes.

(Image from the web, www.etsy.com, "Vintage Pendleton Glacier Park Blanket.")

I could just picture this yarn as a scarf with a denim jacket or such. (Name of color is "Hudson Bay.")

Started a garter stitch scarf on size 11 needles.

But I felt the stitches were a bit "dense," and not much "give," so I ripped back and started it again on size 15 needles.

So far so good, and it's working up quickly. So much, that I got two more skeins (one each of two different colors) for something more to work on. On the left is "Sequoia," and on the right is "Oatmeal."

If it's a cold winter, WE'RE GONNA NEED SCARVES. Especially scarves with even a little wool in them.
Hopefully, I'll take them to the local handcrafts store tomorrow, and see how they do. Still have a lot of cotton yarn, so will be making more. It's a nice thing to sit down and do in the evenings, just a little easy knitting after chores are caught up.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907429555887171528.post-21316791989169171282015-09-29T16:12:00.003-07:002015-09-29T16:13:26.754-07:00Evening KnittingThis evening's dishcloth project. Nice to just relax and knit, even if it's small and uncomplicated.
Finished the pink dishcloth, so started another one. Sat down and realized how much this yarn "matched" my skirt in colors. I made this skirt 'way back when I was around high school age or so. Didn't really like it then, so didn't wear it for a long time, but have enjoyed wearing it these last several years. Colors: Blue, green, white, lavender and pink. the pink in the yarn is barely there, between lavender and white colors, but there is a faint hint of pink at that spot.
I just flat didn't do much this last year in the way of "creativeness." Nor did I feel like baking. But I did get the "groovy-ghan" afghan finished at one point, so I entered that. Early on Thursday morning, before work, I took it over and got it entered .... my lone entry at the fair this year.

Later that afternoon, all the exhibits were judged, then we were able to go in the community building and see the results. I got a red ribbon! That's second in the class, and a $5 premium.

But I noticed that after they judged it, they folded it wrong-side out, so the back side was showing. So I re-folded it, and later got another picture of it.

Ah, that's better.

Then I have a tradition, that after picking up the exhibits on Saturday, I bring them home and take pictures of everything. Of course this year it's just the one thing, but with a ribbon and some money.

Maybe if I start planning NOW, and get in gear, I can have a little more to enter next year!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907429555887171528.post-82178353204278283552015-08-19T16:27:00.001-07:002015-08-19T16:28:29.724-07:00When the Power Goes Out .....When the power goes out due to a storm (last night), and it's evening, and you want something to do, you might knit by lamplight.
I think I'm surrounded with enough yarn, as I sit here in my big chair by the window. Brown granny square "throw" around my shoulders, it's a cold, blustery day, and sitting by this window is chilly. Same for the big blue-and-white granny square throw on my lap, just helping me stay warm. The bright fuschia with the purple-blue variegated is the start of an "abstract cats" afghan, getting the pattern back in my fingers in preparation for another one I'll start this week for a requested project. Had been awhile, so thought I'd better get in practice with the crochet hook again. This one in the picture will just end up as a personal afghan, using scraps. By my feet is the "groovy-ghan," will probably add a few rows to it while I'm at it.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907429555887171528.post-72360644177905442772015-01-31T14:53:00.001-08:002015-01-31T14:53:25.770-08:00Back At It With the Groovy-ghan

The "groovy-ghan" has been sitting in its satchel for quite awhile. Probably months. Got it out yesterday and started in on it again while Hubby had an appointment. Continuing along, looking good, still has a ways to go to be long enough.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6907429555887171528.post-651492155785809712014-12-27T09:37:00.002-08:002014-12-27T09:37:56.167-08:00TealFinished the teal scarf for our neighbor lady who shared a pie with us. Neighbor lady brings over delicious cherry pie for family. Girl decides to use yarn to make nice neighbor lady a pretty scarf to go back with the clean pie plate. This is a quick-to-work-up pattern. Using Caron yarn in "Pagoda." (Yarn is more of a dark teal color - this photo looks more blue.)
The color combination was a happy accident, and I really like it. Mom had a big one like this with multiple colors, that she had on top of a cedar chest. I wish I'd kept it, I think I didn't for some reason. :( So now I'm making stuff with this pattern to make up for that. Call me sentimental, if nothing else.
I didn't keep them, not sure where they even went. But a while back, I was looking at some fall crochet stuff on the internet. All of a sudden, a pattern for these cropped up. "AHHHH!!! IT'S THOSE LEAVES!!!! I MUST MAKE SOME!!!!" So I got obsessed with these for awhile and crocheted up quite a stack of them. These are smaller, and have little curliques at the ends of the rows, but they're basically the same as the ones I remember that Mom made. I think these are supposed to be "dishcloths," but you could use them as coasters, pot holders, decorations, whatever. Anyway, I sure had fun, both making them, and remembering "home" a little.
They aren't supposed to match, as the skeins of this yarn vary in how the colors come out. They are made from Lion Brand's "Amazing" yarn in "Glacier Bay." This is a wool-acrylic blend, and I love it. I tried them on, and they are nice and toasty and comfortable. Just in time for winter to hit.
